The glow of our youth: what exactly is hyaluronic acid?

In the field of aesthetic medicine, hyaluronic fillers are perhaps best known for erasing wrinkles and restoring the skin’s lost glow. But hyaluronic acid is also used in other areas.

Hyaluronic acid (HK) is a natural component of fluids in the eyes and joints. It acts as a “cushion” or lubricant for joints and other tissues. Different forms of hyaluronic acid are used in cosmetics, but also in aesthetic medicine. It reduces swelling in the event of an injury and is irreplaceable in this regard.

There are three basic types of HK:

  • hyaluronic acid,
  • hydrolyzed HK i
  • hyaluronic acid salts.

Due to its high molecular weight, hyaluronic acid it has the ability to attract water and create new regenerative tissue, collagen and elastin. Other types have the same effect, but they are stored and processed using different technology.

The action of hyaluronic acid on the skin
Hyaluronic acid helps the skin to stretch and bend and prevents the formation of wrinkles. It has been proven to accelerate wound healing and reduce scarring.
If you notice fine, fine lines or just want to prevent premature aging, HK is a great ingredient to use in your daily skin care. It has a really strong effect on hydration, tightening and skin care, while keeping it healthy.

How often to use hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid is recommended to be applied to the skin twice a day, so don’t forget to use your hyaluronic cream in the morning and in the evening.
You can go one step further in your skin care by applying HK as a dermal filler. It is introduced into the layer just below the skin, approximately one millimeter in depth, up to five millimeters, and helps to lift tissue that has sunken and looks old. So-called “shallow” fillers up to one millimeter under the skin are called “boosters”. They will truly restore the skin and restore its former shine.
If we compare how much we spend on creams and how much we would invest in a filler of a well-known brand, the durability and results are definitely in favor of fillers.
Always apply the cream to damp skin, never to dry skin, as hyaluronic acid, as a “moisture magnet”, could have the opposite effect.

Can HK regenerate naturally?
Until perimenopause, when the hormonal status is in order, HK is naturally renewed in our body without the necessary stimulus from the outside. However, in perimenopause and later, this no longer happens, and that is exactly why the skin then suddenly gets wrinkles, the face loses volume, and the appearance begins to change. And yet, today everything is possible, including restoring the lost glow and volume of the face.
Fillers disappear on their own within six to 12 months, depending on the brand and the individual’s status, which includes physical activity, medication, diet and smoking.
Regular use of hyaluronic acid in the form of a cream is recommended, and a filler in the form of a booster can be applied once or twice a year. When you do this regularly, your skin will blossom and make you feel satisfied “in your own skin”.
