Dermal fillers for effective rejuvenation of mature skin

In the hands of experts, dermal fillers are a safe and excellent way to reduce the signs of aging on the face. Find out which are the most commonly used dermal fillers and what we need to know about them

When it comes to dermal fillers, hyaluronic acid fillers are most often mentioned nowadays. It is already in our body, in our joints, eyes and skin. Its ability to “attract” water due to its chemical composition gives the skin a refreshed, naturally hydrated look when applied.

The fight against wrinkles: what is skin rejuvenation and renewal?
No cream can do what a dermal filler can. Why? Precisely because the cream penetrates the surface layer of the skin, measurable in nanometers, and the filler is injected into the layer under the skin of 0.1-0.5 centimeters. Some fillers are injected deeper, under the muscles of the face, thus restoring the lost volume to the face.

But in addition to the most commonly used hyaluronic fillers, there are also fillers that contain hydroxyapatite in combination with calcium, which is also a natural part of our body and is found in bones.

Synthetic fillers and autologous fat transplantation
Another type of filler is synthetic, poly-L-lactic acid. This dermal filler is biocompatible, which means that our body recognizes it as its own tissue. It is injected in the form of drops for somewhat more demanding loss of facial volume. It is long-lasting, so the effect can last up to two years. Polymethyl methacrylate is also a synthetic filler, and was often used in the last century.

Autologous fat transplantation is also available for facial rejuvenation. It requires surgical treatment (liposuction), the process of cleaning the extracted fat with a special protocol and its re-injection into the cheekbones, forehead, dark circles or other parts of the face where volume needs to be compensated.

Effects of dermal fillers
All dermal fillers have in common that they create new collagen and thereby contribute to the firmness of the face, smooth out shallower and deeper wrinkles, hydrate the skin, and with a time lag of 14 to 28 days, give the face a natural, more beautiful appearance.

Fillers can lift thin lips, lift facial hollows, reduce or remove darkening of the upper and lower eyelids, reduce or soften old scars, complement or soften static wrinkles, especially on the lower face. Static wrinkles are those around the lips and along the face, and are the result of loss of collagen and skin elasticity.

It is necessary to know that after the application of the first milliliter of dermal filler, the face will not significantly “repair” because the lack of volume has accumulated over the years, so it is not possible to replace it immediately. It is a process of several months during which the loss is compensated gradually.

What are the risks of using fillers?

Possible side effects after fillers largely depend on the type of filler and the expertise of the doctor. Rashes, redness, swelling and hematoma (bruising) are temporary and common occurrences and usually do not represent a problem, nor are they a reason for client dissatisfaction. Dangerous complications such as skin deterioration and blindness are described in a very low percentage and can be attributed to inexperience.

Safety of dermal fillers
Experts, that is, experienced aesthetic surgeons who have been applying dermal fillers for many years, will choose proven and safe products, will advise clients on which ones are best for them, and will apply them appropriately. It is recommended to do a face lift with fillers in polyclinics of aesthetic medicine with a certificate containing the name of the filler, the expiration date and the control lot number.

Fillers are a good choice for smoothing facial wrinkles and depressions caused by aging, they can correct facial asymmetries and emphasize the desired part of the face with excellent results in the hands of a professional doctor.
